Whitehill Country Park in South Devon is taking part in a national initiative to help young people find their inner Bear Grylls by learning the skills of bushcrafting.

The Paignton-based holiday park has joined forces with Reach Outdoors to host students from Gloucestershire College for a series of bushcrafting sessions in its private woodland.

The group will have their foraging skills put to the test during their visit as part of National Citizen Service (NCS) programme which inspires teenagers to try new challenges.

The bushcraft sessions at Whitehill are just one of many activities that the 16 and 17 year olds will tackle this summer during a series of five-day residential courses in the English Riviera.

The students have an action-packed time ahead of them during their visit, with archery, team building, coasteering, kayaking and raft building also on the menu.

All activities have been organised by Reach Outdoors which approached Whitehill Park earlier this year to host the bushcrafting in the park’s idyllic countryside setting.

Director of Reach Outdoors, Richard Hanbury, said: “It’s exciting for Reach Outdoors to be able to attract large groups to come and stay with us on the English Riviera.

“As a small business, our ability to attract large groups to the area has always relied on the relationships that we build with other organisations in the region.

“Today we are fortunate to have been able to use a beautiful bushcraft area at Whitehill Park which is just walking distance from our camp location.

“We are grateful to the Beverley and Whitehill team for their contribution to this event,” added Richard.

Situated in 40 acres of countryside, family-run Whitehill Park offers a wealth of holiday accommodation including luxury lodges, hot tub caravans, camping pods and touring pitches.
