Holiday park guests ditch deckchairs for dare-devil ride
For some families, a West Country holiday means cream teas, rocky-pooling, and a doze in a deckchair. But at one Devon park this summer, the thrills reached new heights.
That’s because Woodlands Family Theme Park near Dartmouth offered to blast its guests 50 foot into the sky whilst apparently spinning recklessly out of control.
The white-knuckle ride, called Vertigo, now presents the most awesome challenge yet for both youngsters and grown-ups on the multi-award winning park.
It takes pride of place at Woodlands’ Sea Monster Zone – one of a raft of attractions at the park which says it enjoyed one of its busiest-ever seasons this summer.
For those less in need of an adrenaline rush, however, there’s plenty of more placid pleasures to enjoy in the picturesque 90-acre grounds of the family-run business.
The park’s popular zoo farm is a wildlife wonderland with its huge and ever-growing stock of animal species, from pythons to ponies.
There is also a falconry centre featuring over 40 birds of prey which regularly take part in aeronautic flying displays.
Other attractions include a dinosaur park complete with prehistoric monsters which recreates the sights and sounds of a landscape more than 160 million years ago.
But according to Woodlands director Chris Bendall, it was certainly the new Vertigo ride which produced the loudest yelps of joy this summer:
“Although Vertigo is entirely safe even for youngsters, it’s has to be one of the most exhilarating experiences that Devon has to offer!” he said.
“It comes from one of Europe’s leading ride manufacturers, and we used local contractors to install it on the park just in time for the holidays.
“The view from the top is absolutely stunning – and I think everyone found the zany journey down just as breathtaking too!” added Chris.
A member of the Best of British parks group, Woodlands‘ accolades include the Alan Rogers “Best Family Campsite in Europe” award, and the “AA Campsite of the Year” award.
