Holiday Parks, Caravan Parks, and Campsites in Northumberland

Northumberland is the least populated county of England. It offers mile upon mile of unspoiled open countryside, dotted with quaint market towns and villages. The county retains a certain wild charm, exemplified in its towering cliffs and beautiful sweeping coastline. Whether you’re looking for holiday homes, glamping, touring holidays, chalets, lodges or cottages, the 40 holiday parks in Northumberland on our website has something to suit all.

Exploring the castles of Northumberland

History buffs and budding knights are spoilt for choice when it comes to stepping back in time. If you’re taking a trip to Alnwick Castle and sense magic in the air do not be surprised. It was featured as Hogwarts in the first two Harry Potter films. It has also been in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Transformers and Downton Abbey.

Coastal fortress Bamburgh Castle sits proudly overlooking on the cliffs overlooking the beach below. You’ll find interesting history throughout the castle, which was the first in the world to fall due to gunpowder. Now it’s home to a unique collection of ceramics and artwor. The inventor William George Armstrong brought with him when he bought the castle in 1894.

You’ll also find Dunstanburgh Castle on the coast and features a twin-towered keep and views of the dramatic ruins. Take a walk along the beach to get to the castle and if you’re feeling peckish. Be sure to try the local delicacy, Craster Kippers.

For scare seekers try Chillingham Castle, Britain’s most haunted castle. Explore the medieval courtyard, armoury, great hall and the dungeon if you dare. The Still Room houses the painting of the haunting witch, who puts a curse on anyone who steals from the castle.

Historic towns and sites of interest

Hadrian’s Wall stretches across the county and is dotted with forts, towers, towns and turrets along the way. Take in the scenic landscape and breath-taking views. And able to get an idea of what life was like for those living in Roman Britain. This World Heritage site is a perfect day out. You can learn about its history at sites such as Chesters Roman Fort and Corbridge Roman Town.

With the sea on one side and countryside on the other, Berwick-Upon-Tweed is a lovely place to see. Meader down alleyways and find hidden courtyards. Or see if you can get a closer look at medieval remains and architecture. There’s lots to do. You can tour the Town Hall, visit the Birds of Prey & Reptile Centre, fish, cycle or play crazy golf. You can even walk along the pier and right up to the 19th century lighthouse and take in the view.

Across the seas is the mystery of Holy Island

Off the coast of Northumberland is the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. It is a place only accessible at certain times of day. Be sure to check the safe crossing times before your visit. Once the causeway has been covered by the tide, there’s no going across. The island may be small, but it is brimming with character.

It’s said that the island is the place where the heavens and earth are closer to each other – and there’s certainly a spark in the atmosphere. Visit the castle and take in the island views from the Upper Battery. Or maybe you’d prefer the ruins of the 11th century priory? The island offers lovely walks that’ll perfectly prepare you for a trip to St Aiden’s Winery.   Here you’ll be able to sample the local mean produced on the island, or one of the quaint cafés for homemade cakes.
