Cameras go behind scenes as top Somerset holiday park re-opens

Holiday Resort Unity plays host to Channel 5
As seen on television: holiday caravans and lodges at the park are set in spacious landscaped surroundings

The behind-the-scenes drama and emotion of a Somerset holiday park re-opening after lockdown will be revealed this month (March) in a new television series.

Holiday Resort Unity in Brean Sands, Somerset, last summer allowed Channel 5 film-makers to access all areas as guests at the park streamed back in July.

The resulting six-part documentary takes an engaging and intimate look at how the lockdown affected those who work and stay at the popular 1000-pitch family-run park.

Channel 5 Documentary

In the first hour-long episode, to be screened on Sunday 14 March at 8.00pm on C5, staff are seen putting the finishing touches to re-opening preparations.

It’s a time of hopeful anticipation, but also uncertainty as the weeks of closure draw to an end and the park gives its main priority to the safety of its team and holiday guests.

Over the series, says Holiday Resort Unity director Alan House, viewers will meet park personnel working in all disciplines from entertainment and cleaning to reception and catering.

It was a great privilege to play host to the Channel 5 crew during one of our most testing times for us as a business, and to give them an insight into how we work.

“We didn’t put any areas out of bounds, and they were free to talk with staff and customers in the run-up to our re-opening and after the park was buzzing again.

“We’re all looking forward to reliving last summer through this series, not least because the park is once again getting ready to welcome visitors back to their happy place,” added Alan.

Family run holiday park for 70 years

Holiday Resort Unity has been a family-run business for over 70 years, and began as a camping field shared with a 100-strong herd of dairy cattle.

Today, the park has more than 1,000 pitches with holiday caravans and lodges to buy and rent, glamping accommodation, and facilities for tents, tourers and motorhomes.

On offer are not just first-class surroundings and leisure facilities, but also Brean Leisure Park with its range of funfair rides, attractions and family entertainment.

The first episode of the Channel 5 series, called “Happy Campers – The Caravan Park”, airs on Sunday 14th March at 8.00pm.
