Dig in! Netflix film fans focus on Suffolk holiday parks
Holiday parks in Suffolk say that a new smash hit Netflix film, The Dig, is helping to make the county a go-to destination for families this year.
Park Holidays UK, which owns five coastal parks in Suffolk, reports a spike in booking enquiries since the film rocketed up the popularity charts in February.
Breathtaking holiday locations
It says that the breathtaking locations and the landscapes in the film seem to have captured the imaginations of people seeking a perfect antidote to the lockdown blues.
The Dig tells the true story of how a group of amateur excavators unearthed an ancient Anglo-Saxon ship and a hoard of treasure in Sutton Hoo on the Suffolk coast.
The holiday group’s parks are all a short drive from the main location, and from other picture-perfect seaside towns and countryside featured in the film.
“People seem to have been doing a bit of digging themselves, and identified our parks as among the best placed for making scenic discoveries,” said Park Holidays UK director Tony Clish.
Enchanting Suffolk holiday parks
“Our Suffolk holiday parks have always had a large and loyal following, but Netflix has done a magnificent job in publicising this enchanting area to a much wider audience.
“The enquiries and bookings are for all types of accommodation, from luxury lodges to glamping pods, and are going through from spring until autumn.
“Our staff are being briefed so that they can advise guests on where to go to discover the filming locations used by Netflix both along the coast and inland.
“I think they will be thrilled to find that the unspoiled beauty is just as it is shown in The Dig, and should provide some lovely holiday memories!” said Tony.
The Dig film
The film is set in 1938 and stars Ipswich-born actor Ralph Fiennes who has been widely praised for his depiction of Basil Brown, the man primarily responsible for locating the burial ship.
Although all of the 30-plus parks operated by Park Holidays UK are presently closed, the company says it is taking bookings starting from 12 April.
Family holidays in 2021, which start from £109.00 for four nights for up to six people, include free entertainment and use of all the park’s leisure facilities including pools.
The group’s five Suffolk parks are in Saxmundham (Carlton Meres Holiday Park), Felixstowe (Felixstowe Beach Holiday Park and Suffolk Sands Holiday Park), and Lowestoft (Broadland Sands Holiday Park and Pakefield Holiday Park).
