MP Celebrates at one of the Best Holiday Parks in Cumbria
MP Tim Farron has marked this spring’s English Tourism Week with a visit to one of the best holiday parks in Cumbria, located on the shores of Windermere. The Westmorland MP was the guest of Lake District Estates at the family business’s Hill of Oaks Lodge and Caravan Park on Windermere (Thursday 24 March).
English Tourism Week, which runs until 26 March, shines a spotlight on England’s tourism sector, and the huge annual contribution that visitors make to the UK economy.
English Tourism Week in Cumbria
Mr Farron was welcomed to Hill of Oaks by senior members of Lakes District Estates which owns seven of the best holiday parks in Cumbria and Lancashire.
It also operates the popular Ullswater “Steamers” and the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway.
Mr Farron described his visit to the park as “awesome”, and said he was greatly impressed by the range accommodation on offer:
“We are so fortunate to have such a world-class tourism sector right on our doorstep which brings massive benefits to our local economy, and also provides fantastic experiences for locals and visitors alike,” he said.
“Local tourism businesses have endured a really tough few years through the pandemic, and now with rising energy and food costs I am committed to continuing to fight their corner.”
During his tour of the park, the MP saw one of the new super-luxury apartments where guests can stay in nautical-themed accommodation overlooking the lake.
Glamping on 5-star Cumbria Holiday Park
He also saw the latest range of holiday accommodation at Hill of Oaks which includes top-end glamping pods and safari tents, both proving a particular hit with young families.
With its multiple slipways to the lake, Mr Farron heard, the park has a special appeal to canoe, paddleboard and boat owners, as well as those seeking easy access to nearby walking trails.
“We were delighted that Tim was able to join us at Hill of Oaks to mark English Tourism Week,” said Lakes District Estates’ head of marketing and business development Rachel Bell.
“Tourism businesses such as ours sustain many jobs within Cumbria, and our visitors support the local economy by generating income for a host of local businesses from pubs and restaurants to visitor attractions.
Lakeland Holiday Park Hospitality
“Tim has been a tireless supporter of Lakeland’s tourism and hospitality industry, and has always been there for us, and not least during the challenging years of the pandemic.
“We are now looking forward to a very busy year on our parks, with many staycation visitors returning after finding out how enjoyable a UK holiday can be,” said Rachel.
She added that the company was also holding a competition to find a “Family Feedback Champion” to win a free holiday and report their experiences across social media.
