Green Award winning Windermere holiday park
Bright lights are beckoning for the husband-and-wife owners of Park Cliffe in Windermere after their award winning Windermere holiday park was nominated this month for another two top business awards.
Now Susan and Derek Dickson must wait until 23 November when all the winners of the In-Cumbria magazine business awards are announced at a glittering awards ceremony in Carlisle.
The couple, who have owned the park for the last 15 years, are finalists in the categories of Best Green/Ethical Business of the Year, and Best Family Business of the Year.
Best Green/Ethical Business of the Year
“We were delighted and slightly stunned to learn from the judges that our park had secured two places in the final line-up of the awards!” said Susan.
“Given that many hundreds of businesses in Cumbria are eligible to take part in the competition, it’s an achievement of which we feel both proud and humbled.
“But a big portion of the credit must be given to our team here at Park Cliffe for the magnificent work they do to ensure that our guests return time and time again,” added Susan.
Set in 25 acres of countryside above the shores of Windermere, Park Cliffe provides holiday homes to rent and own, glamping facilities, and pitches for tents, touring caravans and motorhomes.
Major new Green Energy Project
Earlier this spring, the park welcomed local MP Tim Farron to perform the official switch-on of a major new green energy project undertaken by Susan and Derek.
Representing a £200,000 investment, it features over 200 high-efficiency solar panels which will save 21 tonnes of carbon from entering the atmosphere each year.
The installation, known as a solar array, will generate around 100Kw of power, and is designed to produce electricity even on the most overcast of days.
The switch-on ceremony was attended by regional tourism chiefs and other VIP guests, and Susan described the project as another big step on their journey to carbon neutrality.
Multi Award winning Windermere holiday park
If the park clinches the Green Business title in the In-Cumbria awards, said Susan, it will be a much-prized addition to other awards won by Park Cliffe for its environmental responsibility.
The business also has previous accolades in the family business category of the competition, including – also this spring – a top honour in the North West Family Business Awards 2023.
Park Cliffe was named by judges as the overall victor in the leisure and tourism small business of the year category, beating scores of other regional enterprises to the title.
The In-Cumbria awards are organised by the magazine’s owners Newsquest, and previous hosts of the awards ceremony have included presenter Amol Rajan and radio DJ Jeremy Vine. .
