The Quiet Site on Ullswater NHS offer

Pizzas at The Quiet Site on Ullswater

“If you’re NHS, pizzas are on us!” park tells health workers. Free pizzas were served up to NHS staff this summer by the owner of The Quiet Site on Ullswater who says he has “more reasons than most” to be grateful to the service.

Daniel Holder of the Cumbria holiday park says the wood-fired pizzas were his way of saying thank-you for the years of care that he and his family have received.

“The NHS is simply amazing,” said Daniel whose park was this year’s overall winner of the Ethical, Responsible & Sustainable Tourism Award from Cumbria Tourism.

The Quiet Site on Ullswater is giving back to the NHS

“Ten years ago I received a new hip after earlier horse riding accidents had limited my mobility, and the anniversary got me thinking about how much we owe the NHS.
“I then started looking back on all the other occasions they had come to my aid, even though the problems were sometimes completely of my own making.
“For example, there was the time as a boy when the NHS nursed me and my brother back to health after I had fed us both poisonous berries!”

A couple of years later they also came to my rescue after I jumped off the garage roof using only a plastic bag as a parachute.

“Then there was the three months I spent in hospital following a serious car smash, and NHS’s safe delivery of our three children and way they have been subsequently looked after into adulthood.

I will be forever grateful

“And I will be forever grateful to their incredible nurses and doctors who cared for my father as he battled leukaemia before passing away at a young age.
“I don’t regard free pizzas as anything like a pay-back for what the NHS has done for us, but I just wanted to make a small gesture to mark a lifetime of care,” said Daniel.

The Quiet Site’s pizzas are freshly cooked in a traditional Italian-style oven located in the park’s popular bar-in-a-barn, dating from 1680.

The offer, which ran throughout July, was open to anyone working for the NHS on production of their ID.
