Norfolk has a rich history running throughout the county. As well as the Royal family’s country retreat, Sandringham, there are halls and manor houses waiting to be explored. Make use of your National Trust membership at Bickling Hall, Oxburgh Hall and Felbrigg Hall. Or, take in Houghton Hall, the home of Britain’s first Prime Minister. Here you’ll find an award-winning walled garden alongside outdoor sculptures, and opulent state rooms filled with art, gilded furniture and painted ceilings.
The obvious draw for many holidaymakers are the Norfolk Broads – clearly wildlife abounds in this landscape. There have been several very successful reintroductions of species such as the otter and even the heron that for a long time, struggled to survive. To the eastern side of the Norfolk Broads, the sandy beaches and stunning coastline caress the Broads at Horsey Mere with the salt water of the North Sea coming within a hare’s breathe of the fresh water of the Broads. Wander along the shoreline and you will see that Grey and common seals are thriving.
Behind the beach at Wells-on-Sea, you’ll find the gorgeously scented Corsican pine woods that were planted to protect the land from the weather and offer shade from the sun.
Boating and in particular, Boat Hire of course, has played its part in the development of the tourist industry since the early 20th century and today it is still a vibrant and successful part of Broadland life.
