Cumbria holiday park thanks customers donating through crisis
A husband-and-wife team who run a holiday park in Windermere say they are delighted that the lockdown has failed to frustrate their annual fundraising efforts.
Susan and Derek Dickson of Park Cliffe praised customers who continued to donate online when booking stays on their park near the shores of the lake.
Raising funds for Cumbria Wildlife Trust
It means that Park Cliffe is now able to hand over £544.00 to the Cumbria Wildlife Trust, its most recent designated good cause.
“We usually run a series of fundraising events each year – such as treasure hunts, raffles and quizzes – which are supported both by guests and local businesses,” said Susan.
“But the pandemic put a stop to all that in 2020, so all we were left with were the voluntary donations made by customers when they book online.
“As the holiday park was closed for many weeks last year, we didn’t have very high hopes that this would amount to much at all – but we were wrong.
“When we had a count-up recently, we were thrilled to see that the total came to over five hundred pounds – and donations are still coming in through the current lockdown.
“We’ve now decided to continue raising cash for Cumbria Wildlife Trust throughout this year, and hopefully our usual events programme will be able to go ahead,” said Susan.
She added that visitors staying at the Cumbria holiday park were always willing to put their hands in their pockets and give generously to a good cause.
Championing Lakeland Holidays
The Cumbria Wildlife Trust has proved especially popular, thinks Susan, as many guests choose Park Cliffe because of its location in unspoiled Lakeland countryside.
The holiday park itself is a champion of the natural world, and this year was presented with the David Bellamy Conservation Award for its many initiatives to protect its flora and fauna.
Park Cliffe provides luxury holiday homes to rent and buy, glamping and cottage accommodation, and pitches for touring caravans, motorhomes and tents.
