Dartmoor family’s joy as their holiday park stars in tourism awards
A couple who swapped their cows for a camping and caravan park on Dartmoor say they are overjoyed at scooping two top tourism awards.
Jane and David Kellett, who own Langstone Manor Holiday Park near Tavistock, first gained the ultimate gold accolade in the Visit Devon Tourism Awards.
Their success in the touring park category of the competition saw them fast-tracked to the South West Tourism Excellence Awards which took place in February.
One of the top three touring parks in the West Country
There they found themselves in the spotlight once again as judges named Langstone Manor as one of the top three touring parks in the whole of the West Country.
It means that the park now has a silver trophy to stand alongside its gold Visit Devon award as the business gets ready to re-open in mid-March for the holiday season.
Jane and David were once dairy farmers in Lancashire, but 20 years ago decided to sell up and follow their dream of living and working in Devon.
They bought Langstone Manor Holiday Park in 1999, and over the years have invested much time and energy in creating a top quality holiday destination for families.
Year-on-year visitor growth
Their reward has been to see a year-on-year growth in visitor numbers both from the UK and overseas – and a succession of regional and national awards for their business.
They have included the David Bellamy Conservation Award at its top gold level, and the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for the park’s consistently glowing reviews.
Now Jane and David are delighted that Langstone Manor, which was “mystery shopped” as part of the tourist board judging process, is now officially one of the best in the South West.
The couple say they hope their latest awards will also help other local tourism businesses by shining the spotlight on Dartmoor as one of Devon’s top holiday locations.
The park provides camping and touring facilities along with a wide range of holiday homes and luxury glamping pods, plus facilities including a popular bar and restaurant.
