Family’s Windermere holiday park can now bring help in a heartbeat

Park Cliffe holiday park in Windermere is now home to life-saving medical equipment, thanks to a recent initiative by the business’s family owners.

The park has installed in its grounds a state-of-the-art defibrillator which could greatly increase the chances of survival for a person suffering cardiac arrest.

Available to holiday guests and the local community, the fully automated unit provide simple audio instructions which allow its use even by those with no medical experience.

Park Cliffe owners Susan and Derek Dickson say the defibrillator could make a crucial difference, especially in summer when travelling times are lengthened by traffic volumes.

It is installed in a special housing on the reception building of the 25-acre park which sits above the eastern shores of Windermere and attracts tens of thousands of visitors each year.

To make the unit a reality, Susan and Derek worked in conjunction with the Community Heartbeat Trust, the UK’s largest defibrillator charity to which the park is a financial donor.

The couple have owned Park Cliffe for just over a decade, and have earned many awards both for the quality of the facilities, and its many environmentally-friendly initiatives.

The holiday park was also shortlisted as a finalist in this June’s Cumbria Tourism Awards, and earlier this year was voted one of the top parks in Britain by readers of Practical Caravan magazine.

Park Cliffe provides pitches with far-reaching Lakeland views for touring guests and campers, as well as glamping accommodation and holiday homes to rent and buy.

Susan said they have already received “fantastic local feedback” about the defibrillator, including from those who know someone who is vulnerable due to their medical history.
