Fens fishing holiday park awaits green light to celebrate new lake

The family owners of a fishing-friendly holiday park in Cambridgeshire say they “can’t wait” to make a splash with the opening of a new lake this year.

But the additional lake at Fields End Water won’t just be a lure for anglers – for it will also be providing luxury glamping pods and touring pitches on its banks.

The park, near the Fenland market town of March, says the accommodation will give guests a grandstand view of the amazing diversity of its resident wildlife.

The new lake, just over an acre in size, joins two other fishing lakes in Field End Water’s grounds where carp and other species provide a sporting challenge for all skills.

However, guests already booking the pitches and pods must cross their fingers that government regulations will allow the park and its facilities to re-open later in spring.

“Bookings for 2021 were already very strong when we announced the completion of the new lake earlier this year,” said park director and family member Charlie Boughton.

“Now they have reached a new high water mark with people clearly anxious to enjoy the type of break they need and deserve after the current lockdown.

“We’re hoping that the extra lake and its surrounding accommodation will open as we’ve planned in mid-March, and are taking bookings for both touring pitches and glamping pods.

“We’re pinning our hopes on normality starting to return by then, and that Fields End will once again have the happy buzz we’ve all been missing so much,” said Charlie.

The adults-only park is based on the arable farm owned by Charlie’s parents, Duncan and Vicky, and started welcoming touring guests just over 15 years ago.

Its picture-perfect setting in tranquil Cambridgeshire countryside, together with the high quality facilities created by the family, have won the park a large and loyal following.

It also has a special appeal to anglers – and with the creation of a third lake, it means the park can now offer around four acres of well-stocked coarse fishing waters.

As well as facilities for motorhomes, touring caravans and tents plus glamping pods, Fields End also provides luxury lodges to rent with their own privates hot tubs.

Charlie says that his family’s farming background means that sustainability has always been a priority in the management of the park:

“We care deeply about the natural world and do what we can to protect its wildlife; the park and its lakes are a magnet for many different animal and bird species.

“That’s why we were recently delighted to learn that our raft of environmental initiatives has won us this year’s David Bellamy Conservation Award for supporting green tourism.

“Credit for this must also go to our hard working staff who share our love of this beautiful area,” said Charlie who is helped in the running of the park by his wife Michelle.
