Glasgow Eco-friendly Residential Park planned
The family owners of an Glasgow eco-friendly residential park have given the green light to a new expansion phase on which work is now underway.
Red Deer Village in Stepps, just to the east of the city, is siting 35 new luxury park homes in its grounds, designed principally for people in or near retirement.
This latest development will bring to 130 the number of homes on the park, and a final phase will see a total of 183 park homes sited at Red Deer.
Eco-friendly and Sustainability focus
Red Deer was acquired almost 20 years ago by Glasgow-born brothers John and Ivan Hendry who say they committed from the outset to make sustainability their watchword.
Over the past two decades they have introduced a host of features to protect the flora and fauna of the grounds which provide sweeping views across the North Lanarkshire countryside.
They include the planting of thousands of high nectar-bearing flowers which provide vital foraging on which honey bees, butterflies and other pollinators can feast.
These have recently been supplemented by sowing of wildflower pockets around the grounds.
Two wildlife ponds on the park also act as a magnet for a rich variety of resident and visiting bird life, as well as damselflies and other aquatic species.
Award-winning Green Policies
John and Ivan’s green policies have won awards from the David Bellamy Conservation Scheme, the RSPB Wild Challenge, and park staff have gained carbon literate certification.
The new park homes in Glasgow now being sited are also designed with sustainability in mind, and feature high levels of insulation and double glazing to minimise energy usage.
There are also charging facilities for electric vehicle owners, and Red Deer itself uses non-polluting electric buggies within the grounds.
The new eco-friendly homes, which start from £189,000, come complete with contemporary furnishings and modern fittings, and the park says that their layout can be configured to suit the buyer.
A gated entrance to the new development and CCTV monitoring of visitors adds extra levels of security, giving peace of mind not just to residents but also their families.
Welcoming Residents Community Hub
Red Deer also provides a well-used community hub where residents frequently come together for a range of activities from social get-togethers to charity fundraising events.
John Hendry said that the park has traditionally attracted more mature couples from the Glasgow area who share he and his bother’s love of natural, tranquil surroundings:
