When 10-year-old Alysha Scarrott heard about the “super brave” NHS workers near her home town of Aberystwyth, she wanted to help in any way she could.

So Alysha set herself the challenge of running a mile around her family’s mid-Wales holiday park every day during the lockdown, come rain or shine.

Her aim was to raise £1,000 for the local NHS fundraising appeal – and she smashed her target almost immediately via her Just Giving page.

Now Alysha has raised the stakes to £5,000 and is determined to keep going until the figure is reached.

Alysha lives with her parents James and Victoria, five-year-old brother James and sister Sienna, aged three, at Clarach Bay Holiday Village.

The park is one of nine in Wales which has been owned by the Scarrott family for over 50 years, and which trade under the name of Vale Holiday Parks.

Clarach Bay is half-a-mile in length, so Alysha is able to complete her daily challenge in complete safety – but she admits it’s not exactly a stroll in the park:

“I don’t think I’m really a natural runner, but I want to do this for the NHS as they are going into work each day for all of us and being super brave.

“Even if it rains I’m going to carry on, and it would be amazing if I could raise £5,000 because I thought at first that £1,000 would be great,” she said.

Her mum Victoria said the family were “extremely proud” of Alysha:

“She’s picked something really challenging, and is very determined to see it through, even though I told her that the lockdown extension might go on for weeks!” said Victoria.

“She was quite tired yesterday, but she says she is not going to give up.”
