Somerset holiday park celebrates ten years as child-free champion
People who prefer taking holidays without the patter of tiny feet have voted a Somerset touring park as their favourite “adults only” destination for the tenth year.
Staff and the family owners of Bath Chew Valley Caravan Park are now celebrating their decade of dominance in the annual poll of readers of two top touring magazines.
Their votes saw Bath Chew Valley, based in Bishop Sutton near Bath, propelled once again to the top of the league table for grown-up holiday experiences.
But according to the readers of Practical Caravan and Practical Motorhome, there’s much more to love about Bath Chew Valley than its 18-plus age rule.
They also gave a thumbs-up for the five-star park’s spotless facilities, friendly atmosphere, and blissful rural setting with an abundance of wildlife.
Bath Chew Valley has been a child-free zone for 20 years, and park owner Keith Betton says it has a special appeal to certain groups of visitors:
“There are many superb family parks in Britain, but we are simply offering an alternative for those who prefer to wake up to bird song rather than chirping children,” he said.
“Some of our guests are teachers and child care professionals who don’t want to be reminded of their day jobs when they go away for a break.
“Others include young professionals in motorhomes and campervans, and also mature couples who just want to chill in peaceful surroundings – and that’s what we do best!” added Keith.
Open all year, the park’s pitches are spread across more than four acres of landscaped grounds, including dog exercising areas and a woodland conservation trail.
The area is also a popular destination for bird-watchers, cyclists and walkers – and also anglers who visit nearby Chew Valley Lake, a championship fishing venue and country park.
Adding to the stress-free experience on offer is a valet parking service which allows touring caravan owners to sit back while their unit is sited by staff on its pitch and levelled.
As well as scooping the national “adults only” title, magazine readers also voted Bath Chew Valley as their favourite park get-away in the Somerset, Avon and Wiltshire region for the eleventh consecutive year.
Other accolades won by the business include the prestigious David Bellamy Conservation Award at its top gold level, recognising the raft of wildlife initiatives taken by the park.
As well as taking the reins at Bath Chew Valley, Keith Betton also helps champion high standards among other UK holiday parks, including those in membership of the Best of British touring and holiday parks group.
Keith has served for 12 years as a director on the board of Best of British which brings together top-rated family-run parks providing exceptional surroundings, services and facilities.
