Style lovers find a chic Glamping retreat on Devon park
Devon holidaymakers can now enjoy a luxury continental camping experience without the flap of putting up a tent – or even having to cross the Channel.
Oakdown Holiday Park near Sidmouth has teamed-up with the French designers of the CoCo glamping pod to offer stays with savoir faire in the English countryside.
The multi-award winning park believes that CoCo represents the latest stage in the evolution of pods from basic timber shells to comfortable and stylish holiday retreats.
Sleeping up to four people, the CoCo provides cooking facilities, a fridge/freezer, heating, generous living and dining areas, and a large exterior canopy for dining al-fresco.
With prices from £60.00 per night, the pods are already proving popular with couples and families seeking a fresh-air Devon holiday with the accent on pampering.
Park owner Alastair Franks said that since they first started appearing just over a decade ago, pods have caught the imagination of holidaymakers:
“Almost everyone loves the notion of camping, but the realities of erecting a tent and packing it away afterwards can take the edge off the experience for some people,” he said.
“Pods neatly sidestep this problem, but still provide that wonderful sense of being out there in nature and coming closer to the sights and sounds of the countryside.
“We already provide conventional timber pods, and these are still much sought after – but now the CoCo pod has gone another step forward in widening the appeal of such holidays.
“The concept is all about light and airy living in charmingly designed holiday accommodation, somewhere between a safari tent and a scaled-down Mediterranean holiday villa.
“We’re delighted to be the first park in Britain to offer the CoCo to guests, and I’m guessing that they will be the most photographed holiday homes on the park!” added Alastair.
Owned by the Franks family for over 40 years, Oakdown Holiday Park also provides luxury caravan holiday homes to rent and to buy, plus touring pitches.
In 2015, Oakdown beat more than 900 other UK parks to take the overall title of AA Campsite of the Year, based on votes cast by guests – and it also holds many other accolades.
